SUMMARY:Sunday Worship
DESCRIPTION:I Kings 17:8-12\n\n\n8  Then the Lord said to Elijah\, 9  “Go and live in the village of\n\n\nZarephath\, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there\n\n\nto feed you.”\n\n\n10  So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the\n\n\nvillage\, he saw a widow gathering sticks\, and he asked her\,\n\n\n“Would you please bring me a little water in a cup?” 11  As she was\n\n\ngoing to get it\, he called to her\, “Bring me a bite of bread\, too.”\n\n\n12  But she said\, “I swear by the Lord your God that I don’t have a\n\n\nsingle piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of\n\n\nflour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I\n\n\nwas just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal\, and then my\n\n\nson and I will die.”\n\n\n \n\n\nI Kings 17:13-16\n\n\n13  But Elijah said to her\, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just\n\n\nwhat you’ve said\, but make a little bread for me first. Then use\n\n\nwhat’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son. 14  For this\n\n\nis what the Lord\, the God of Israel\, says: There will always be\n\n\nflour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the\n\n\nLord sends rain and the crops grow again!”\n\n\n15  So she did as Elijah said\, and she and Elijah and her family\n\n\ncontinued to eat for many days. 16  There was always enough flour\n\n\nand olive oil left in the containers\, just as the Lord had promised\n\n\nthrough Elijah.\n\n\n \n\n\n2 Corinthians 8:1-15\n\n\n1  Now I want you to know\, dear brothers and sisters\, what God in\n\n\nhis kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. 2  They\n\n\nare being tested by many troubles\, and they are very poor. But\n\n\nthey are also filled with abundant joy\, which has overflowed in rich\n\n\ngenerosity.\n\n\n3  For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford\,\n\n\nbut far more. And they did it of their own free will. 4  They begged\n\n\nus again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the\n\n\nbelievers in Jerusalem. 5  They even did more than we had hoped\,\n\n\nfor their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us\,\n\n\njust as God wanted them to do.\n\n\n6  So we have urged Titus\, who encouraged your giving in the first\n\n\nplace\, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of\n\n\ngiving. 7  Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith\, your\n\n\ngifted speakers\, your knowledge\, your enthusiasm\, and your love\n\n\nfrom us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.\n\n\n8  I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how\n\n\ngenuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the\n\n\nother churches.\n\n\n9  You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though\n\n\nhe was rich\, yet for your sakes he became poor\, so that by his\n\n\npoverty he could make you rich.\n\n\n10  Here is my advice: It would be good for you to finish what you\n\n\nstarted a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to\n\n\ngive\, and you were the first to begin doing it. 11  Now you should\n\n\nfinish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the\n\n\nbeginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to\n\n\nwhat you have. 12  Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it\n\n\neagerly. And give according to what you have\, not what you don’t\n\n\nhave. 13  Of course\, I don’t mean your giving should make life easy\n\n\nfor others and hard for yourselves. I only mean that there should\n\n\nbe some equality. 14  Right now you have plenty and can help\n\n\nthose who are in need. Later\, they will have plenty and can share\n\n\nwith you when you need it. In this way\, things will be equal. 15  As\n\n\nthe Scriptures say\,\n\n\n“Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over\,\n\n\n    and those who gathered only a little had enough.”\n\n\n \n\n\nPhilippians 4:10-20\n\n\n10  How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I\n\n\nknow you have always been concerned for me\, but you didn’t\n\n\nhave the chance to help me. 11  Not that I was ever in need\, for I\n\n\nhave learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12  I know\n\n\nhow to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned\n\n\nthe secret of living in every situation\, whether it is with a full\n\n\nstomach or empty\, with plenty or little. 13  For I can do everything\n\n\nthrough Christ\, who gives me strength. 14  Even so\, you have done\n\n\nwell to share with me in my present difficulty.\n\n\n15  As you know\, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me\n\n\nfinancial help when I first brought you the Good News and then\n\n\ntraveled on from Macedonia. No other church did this. 16  Even\n\n\nwhen I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once. 17  I\n\n\ndon’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather\, I want you to\n\n\nreceive a reward for your kindness.\n\n\n18  At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously\n\n\nsupplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a\n\n\nsweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.\n\n\n19  And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your\n\n\nneeds from his glorious riches\, which have been given to us in\n\n\nChrist Jesus.\n\n\n20  Now all glory to God our Father forever and ever! Amen.
